Student Council

The Academy is committed to ensuring students have a significant role to play when decisions are made which affect them. We value the views of our Student Council who are expected to represent the opinions of their peers. Student Council members are elected by their peers as follows:

• The roles of House Prefect and Student Council are outlined to all.
• Nominations are made by peers in each tutor group.
• If a student accepts a nomination they then make an election speech.
• The whole group then make their choice by voting for one girl and one boy.
• Each tutor group elects two House Prefects – one boy, one girl.
• From those Prefects each House elects one student per year group to serve on the Student Council.

The Council meets regularly – once every half term, when students are asked to contribute to discussions on a relevant topical issue. Students may also be asked to feedback on the outcomes of the meeting to their peers and/or staff as well as to the Academy Governors.
