Presentation Evening 2009

Francis Combe Academy stars get a ‘Heroes’ welcome.

Francis Combe held it’s first annual Presentation Evening as an Academy and Students, both past and present, collected awards and certificates for their outstanding performance in the Academy. Guests included governors, councillors and pass staff members who were also entertained by live music interludes. In the first year of the Academy we were also very grateful for new sponsorship for various awards from Top Golf, Watford Hilton hotel, Human Utopia, My News, West Herts College and the Watford Community Sports and Education Trust.

The evening featured the presentation of exam certificates for all those successful KS4 and 5 students in what was a record breaking year in public exams.

There were many immensely proud children and parents as the nominated students collected their subject awards. The evening reached a climax with some special awards. New ‘House’ awards were presented, students who have represented the academy so well in the local community were recognized and the Literacy themes of Reading, Speaking and Creative Writing were rewarded. Guest of Honour Graham Moore of Human Utopia presented many awards, delivered a superb inspirational speech and gave special awards to two Human Utopia ‘Heroes’ Matt McGee and Vue Nkomo. The Academy’s sponsors, West Herts College, backed a new award on the Academy specialism of Art to sixth former Drew Myers. The real high spot was the recognition of a family who give so much of their time to the Academy and the local community. Sisters Bev and Kirstie Holden deservedly took home the last two awards of the evening. Their support of young people both in the academy and in the local community through their voluntary work with the likes of the Police Cadets and Woodside Motorcycle Project, among others, is an inspiration to all.

Principal Nicky Williams summed it up – “It was an inspirational evening, we have so many wonderful and exciting things happening in the Academy now and this evening recognized the very best. The children awarded tonight are a real credit to the Academy and their families”.
