Academy Opportunities
Our Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
Thank you for your interest in Francis Combe Academy. We work closely with our sponsor – West Herts College – to provide our learners and our community with greater opportunities than ever before.
Our teaching and non-teaching staff work hard and enthusiastically as one team under the guiding principle that "every young person and adult can succeed and transform their life chances". If you were to join us, you would be joining an exceptional team of staff, with just the right balance of experienced staff who have been with us happily for many years and more recent recruits who keep the new ideas flowing in.
If you are a Newly Qualified Teacher, our leadership team will be delighted to share their wealth of experience and to provide support and encouragement! We have successfully guided many new teachers through their important first year and have a well-structured induction programme in place.
All staff joining the Academy will receive a comprehensive Academy Staff Induction and also an individual, departmental induction. We aim to provide support and guidance for all staff, particularly during their first few weeks in post.
We have a strong focus on the quality of teaching and learning in the classroom, and are constantly looking to innovate in order to improve our practice. Our exam results have grown impressively over the past few years, with our 5 GCSEs at A*-C including English and Maths figure jumping by 18% in 2011. We have a thriving Sixth Form, which offers a wide range of A Level courses, as well as Level 2 and Level 3 vocational courses. Behaviour is good, and we have a very vocal Student Council. All of these aspects of Francis Combe life contribute to the feeling that the Academy is a vibrant, exciting, successful place in which to work and learn.
In September 2011, we moved into the first half of our £25 million new building, which provides an inspiring environment in which to work and offers the latest technology to improve provision, to aid communication and to make our lives a whole lot easier!
We are keen to create opportunities for personal and professional development and a number of teaching and non-teaching staff have been supported in their studies to gain additional qualifications and so further their careers. Indeed, Continuing Professional Development is a major focus for the Academy, our aim being to maximise the potential of our workforce and enable the young people in our care to achieve the best possible outcomes
So, if you think Francis Combe could be somewhere you would like to work, we warmly invite you to find out about any vacancies by contacting Julie Chapman, our HR Manager
