‘Smart Time’ with the Personal Tutor
Our students spend a significant part of their week with their Personal Tutor/Mentor. During this time students are encouraged and required to review their own progress, set targets and think about how they can take responsibility for their own futures.
Students are expected to think about how they work:-
- independently,
- as a team member,
- as a reflective learner,
- as a creative thinker,
- as a self manager,
- as someone who is participating in their learning.
Smart Time
Activities carried out with their Personal Mentors include:-
- Compiling their PAL (Plan for Aspiration and Learning). A file which allows students to set long, medium and short term targets – and review them. It also tracks progress in their assessments, keeps a record of reading being done by the student and also extra curricular activities (inside and outside the Academy).
- Checking planners for recording of Homework (and Detentions!).
- Monitoring rewards.
- Checking on equipment (8 CHOPPERS).
- Quiet reading
- Completing homework
